Buncombe Creek Recreation Area and Campground

by Ray Roman Updated on Oct 4, 2023

Buncombe Creek Campground is a popular recreational area located on the shores of Lake Texoma in southern Oklahoma. Hiking, fishing, hunting, boating, and swimming will create the perfect camping vibe. If the Oklahoma Cross Timbers region is where you are headed, the Buncombe Creek campgrounds are one to visit!

The Lake Texoma Buncombe Creek park is especially well maintained as it is operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. It is primarily open from April to September, although a few of the campsites may remain open longer.

This region is going to be surrounded by a forest of post and blackjack oats. You definitely will not be alone here as it hosts many animals, including deer, bobcats, hawks, turkeys, and waterfowl!

Facilities and Amenities

Buncombe Creek offers 54 campsites that include electrical and water hookups. On-site, there will be two different boat ramps, a dump station, and its own dock.

This location also has paved access available. Showers and drinking water are included on-site, along with flush and vault toilets.

Keep in mind that there is an entrance station with the gates open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For those few sites open in the winter months, there is only one frost-free hydrant available to fill up water tanks, since the hookups shut off after October annually.

Nearby Attractions

Lake Texoma hosts nearly 6 million people every year, so it is a given how much it is enjoyed and recommended to others. This sounds like a huge number; however, the lake has so much to offer in all seasons of the year, and not just the summertime.

This area features two different wildlife refuges, two state parks, and 23 commercial concession areas to choose from for your pleasure.
